I took this on the walk back from the train station. Such a beautiful day and surrounded by beautiful views!
Recipes The Healthy Latina

The Healthy Latina has a new home in the Windy City

You read that right! This blogger has moved across the country from Phoenix to Chicago! With my master’s classes starting in a month, I have had plenty of time on my hands to organize the apartment and explore the neighborhood. And since I don’t have the bus and “L” system down yet, the majority of it has been by foot. Which is absolutely amazing! It has given me time to really appreciate my location and is great exercise for all the times my family has taken me out to eat this past week.

Here is a quick glance at my past week. Life here is coming together quite nicely!

The biggest obstacle I face here is grocery shopping; I need to carry all of my bags home as I no longer have access to a car.  This proposes a problem compared to how I’m used to shopping (about twice a month) and stocking my fridge and freezer to the brim. In Arizona I always had the issue of produce going bad way too quickly since it’s so hot so I would stick with more frozen fruits and vegetables and some fresh produce.

Eventually I just got tired of wasting money on produce that would go bad within the first 24 hours of bringing it home. Walmart just introduced a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all their produce so I’m hitting the pavement and checking it out first hand. As part of the Walmart Fresh Crew, I am going to tour the store and find out all about their new produce guarantee and hopefully learn more about the growing availability of quality and affordable fresh produce thanks to this new program. And there will be a giveaway coming up as well!! So be sure to check back for the update!

For now, farewell from the Windy City! I’m hoping to discover all the healthy, hidden gems from around the Chicagoland area and share them here.
